Porto Cesareo guide
The guide I’d give a friend.
On mobile, use the menu in the fixed bar below; on desktop, use the tabs above. Each section is short and practical, with Google Maps links where it helps.
5 km · by bike
Torre Chianca
The closest one. Pale sand, shallow water for dozens of metres—if you’re travelling with children, start here.
Our tip — go around 8:00: the water is still glassy and the beach feels almost yours.
6 km · by bike
Torre Lapillo
A wide bay that looks unreal. Solid turquoise, a long stretch of sand, beach clubs and free beach side by side.
13 km · by bike
Punta Prosciutto
Dunes, very white sand, enamel‑blue water. It fills up in August, but it’s still the most beautiful postcard‑view in the area.
Our tip — arrive for aperitivo around 17:30: many people leave, and the light is at its best.
barca dal porto · 10 min
Rabbit Island (Isola dei Conigli)
A nature reserve just off the coast. Clear water, easy snorkelling, real quiet.
Our tip — take the first boat in the morning and bring a big bottle of water: there’s nothing on the island, and that’s exactly the point.
2 km · on foot or by bike
Bacino Grande
The locals’ little cove: low rocks, transparent water, fewer people. The place you go after work.
Our tip: bring something cold at sunset, when the sea changes colour.
Off‑season
May and October
On good days you can still swim. It’s less crowded than July and August, restaurants have more space, and the light stays beautiful until evening. If you’d like an idea of where to go, message us.
Seafood · dinner · Torre Lapillo
Kaila Bistrò
Salento cooking and fresh fish in a bistro just steps from the bay. Classic dishes done well—scarfatu, orecchiette with turnip tops, and the day’s raw fish. Always book ahead in peak season.
Via Lecce 34, Torre Lapillo · by bike
Pizza · dinner · Porto Cesareo
Da Antimo
A historic Porto Cesareo pizzeria since 1957. Wood‑fired oven with its distinctive look, plus fresh fish and pizzas that satisfy even the picky ones. We go on Sunday evenings when we’re tired.
Central Porto Cesareo · on foot or by bike
Breakfast · pasticciotto
Jacopo Falli Dolci & Gelato
The best pasticciotto in the area—Gambero Rosso “Due Coni”, Best Pasticciotto 2024. Breakfast done properly: warm pasticciotto, iced coffee with almond milk.
Via Silvio Pellico 45 · on foot or by bike
Aperitivo · evening · on the harbour
Cantina Leopardi
A small wine bar overlooking the harbour and the boats. Local wines (Primitivo, Negroamaro, Susumaniello), cheese and cured‑meat boards, an intimate atmosphere. Sunset feels at home here.
Porto Cesareo marina · on foot or by bike
Slow lunch · countryside
Ristorante Radici
Salento cooking in a historic masseria among olive trees and dry‑stone walls. Handmade pasta, garden vegetables, grilled meats. Perfect for a lunch away from the busy seaside.
Masseria Donna Menga, Nardò
Gelato & granita · after dinner
Gelateria La Granita
Sicilian granita with real fruit, artisan gelato. The almond flavour is the real test. Open late in summer, on the stroll towards the harbour.
Central Porto Cesareo · on foot or by bike

On foot · 5 min
Sunset at Thot
From the B&B, walk down towards the seafront: in a few minutes you’ll reach Thot, a waterfront bar with open‑sea views. Ideal for a drink at sunset—no car needed.
-
Snorkeling
Porto Cesareo Marine Protected Area — one of Italy’s largest MPAs, with 32 km of protected coastline. Clear water, posidonia meadows, and fish you can actually watch. Fins, mask, and ten minutes of patience—it works even the first time.
-
Barca
Rabbit Island boat trip — departures from the harbour, even simple return rides. Ten minutes by boat, three hours on the beach, back in the afternoon. Ask us which boatmen we like.
-
Lecce
An afternoon in the historic centre — 26 km. Baroque architecture, Lecce stone that changes colour at sunset, and a pasticciotto in the square. Go after 17:00: it’s cooler, and the city lights up on its own.
-
Gallipoli
Dinner in the old town — 35 km. The historic centre sits on an island: white lanes and dinner on the sea bastions. A perfect change of scenery when you need a break from the beach.
-
Market
Thursday market — Lungomare Ponente, 8:00–13:00. Fruit, cheese, beach towels, sandals, and a bit of ceramics. Go early, before the sun bites.
-
Bike
A slow ride through the countryside — ancient olive trees, dry‑stone walls, and the occasional masseria opening its courtyard. At sunset the light changes completely. Bikes can be rented in town—we’ll point you to the right place.
Aereo · consigliato
Brindisi (BDS) · 65 km
About a one‑hour drive. Served by Ryanair, ITA, Lufthansa, and Wizz Air from major Italian and European cities. Car rentals are available at the airport.
Aereo · alternativo
Bari (BRI) · 200 km
Around a two‑hour drive. More flight options, but less convenient once you’re on the road. Consider it only if Brindisi prices are unusually high.
Treno
Lecce · 26 km
Main station, about a 30‑minute drive. Direct Frecciarossa trains from Milan, Bologna, Rome, and Naples. From Lecce: taxi, car rental, or transfer on request.
Auto
Via De Pascalis 51
A quiet residential street, with reserved parking for guests. Your sat‑nav will take you straight here. If it acts up at the last turn, call us—we’ll guide you.
An honest tip
A small car and two bikes.
For everyday life here, a bike is enough: nearby beaches, restaurants, gelato shops, the harbour. For longer outings (Punta Prosciutto, Lecce, Gallipoli, masserie), a small car is perfect—nothing bigger is needed. Bikes are free for guests: we’ll hand them over at check‑in and show you the easiest routes.
-
1
Going to the beach between 11:00 and 13:00.
High sun, scorching sand, crowded beaches. Better early (8–11) or after 16:00. In between: a cool shower and an hour of siesta.
-
2
Eating dinner at 20:00 in August without booking.
The good places will be full. Book the day before, or show up around 21:30 when the first tables free up.
-
3
Forgetting water shoes.
In several coves the seabed is rocky or has sea urchins. With water shoes you can get in without thinking—cheap, but they can change your holiday.
-
4
Visiting Lecce in the middle of the day.
Go after 17:00: Lecce stone glows at sunset, and the heat becomes bearable.
-
5
Trusting informal “parkers” at Punta Prosciutto.
People who stop you in the road aren’t always honest. Use the official marked car parks: it costs a little more, but you stay relaxed.
-
6
Underestimating the sun.
Here it doesn’t burn—it scorches. SPF 50 in the morning, a hat, and a water bottle. A light t‑shirt after swimming, especially in the first few days.
-
7
Arriving without cash.
The market, some small bars, some gelato shops: having €100 in your pocket can save you two ATM runs on busy days.

Yes — if you write in English, we'll answer in English. Nothing to worry about.
